Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine

A reassuring approach to treatment helps to hold space for all those who need to rejuvenate

Girija's practice resonates with the body’s ability to self-regulate and heal. Her natural treatment style is based on energy work since the early eighties with the modalities that flourished and grew out of them. Her current practice involves a blend of acupuncture, essential oils, shamanic energy work, bodywork, and tuning forks.

Meet Girija

Since my qualifying degree with a major in Chinese Medicine, I have followed my interest path with the teachings of Master Jeffrey Yuen, who provides an extraordinary view of the channels far beyond what was learnt at college. Suddenly, health and wellbeing became as understandable as making a great meal to share with friends. The complement channels edited out of history offer access to latent issues—key to understanding long-term problems and inheritance.

Guiding philosophy based on a Daoist philosophy of understanding the natural flow of the universe.

Growing up as a sickly child in the African savannah of the sixties, immersed in the mystical traditions that surrounded me, I made a vow to myself to decode the mysteries of health and longevity. This passion found resonance in Jeffrey’s teachings. They reflected natural simplicity and contentment. Being unburdened by concepts or excessive striving was accompanied by his keen attention to detail. Access to the vast knowledge base of a master scholar, teacher and practitioner of Classical Chinese Medicine is something I am grateful for.

Approach to Wellness

Integrating Chinese medicine, Daoist philosophy, and contemporary wellbeing thinking

The disappearance of symptoms does not mean health. The deep work encountered can require attention to diet and lifestyle. My focus is alchemical since a lot of issues in the modern-day world can seem insurmountable. A good sprinkling of pragmatic acupuncture or other tools also comes into play.

Areas of Focus

  • Vitality
  • Relationship
  • Emotional wellbeing
  • Support in recovery from major medical intervention

Resonance with my work style can magnify the results of treatment, and this can be discussed at the outset of the first session.

Influence & Training

Influences are the yoga practice I began in the late seventies that led to qigong. I began studying for a Western Medicine Degree in the late sixties at the age of twelve when there was no age restriction. Therefore my interest in wellness has always been strong. I was surrounded by mysticism, but my interest in it did not peak till much later in my life. Shamanism takes on many forms in various cultures. My teachings in Chinese Shamanism showed me how it could be interpreted into symptoms and treatment from a western perspective as well.
